In this series, we will walk through the first part of the gospel according to Mark (Mark 1:16-3:12), focussing on the central question: Who is Jesus?
In this second message, we see Jesus as the great purifier. We look at how Jesus centers his ministry on helping others. Specifically in this passage, we read of Jesus "helping up" Simon's mother-in-law. Then, Jesus shows the need for self-care by going away to pray, which follows with Jesus going back out to another community to teach and minister to people. Jesus' inward-outward care is paralleled by his own practice of going away and coming to people in need of purifying.
