Luke 10:38-42
Mary, Mary Quite Contrary (pt. 2: Mary of Bethany)

In this series, we will look at the various people named Mary in the gospel stories and see how Jesus elevates women in his birth, life, and death.

In this second message, we look at Mary of Bethany, who sits at Jesus' feet as his disciple. We consider how Martha serves Jesus, but she seeks to fit into the social norms of patriarchy whereas Mary is subversive to them. We conclude that we are called to follow Jesus' revolutionary, right-side up, and counter-cultural kingdom of equity and justice for all.
